Layer 2 (L2) scaling solutions and restaking protocols continue to innovate, but market sentiment isn’t following. Tokens like Arbitrum ($ARB), Optimism ($OP), zkSync ($ZK), Lido ($LDO), and EtherFi ($ETHFI) have rolled out cutting-edge features, yet they struggle to attract institutional investment.

In contrast, Ethereum ($ETH) has proven itself as a reliable, scalable, and secure ecosystem. Institutions are focusing their capital on Ethereum rather than these higher-risk plays, reflecting a cautious yet strategic approach to crypto investment this cycle.

Solid Tech, But No Real Momentum

While the tech behind these L2 and restaking tokens is undeniably impressive, price charts paint a different picture. Most of these tokens have seen flat or declining prices, with no strong upward trend to speak of.

Despite launching with fanfare, $ARB and $OP haven’t lived up to expectations in terms of price performance. The same goes for restaking plays like $LDO and $ETHFI, which introduced complex staking models but failed to sustain investor interest. Without real momentum or meaningful adoption metrics, these tokens remain speculative bets rather than strong portfolio anchors.

I’m not buying into L2 or restaking tokens this cycle. Coins like $ARB, $OP, $ZK, $LDO, $ETHFI have strong tech but no real momentum.

Institutions aren’t touching them, and $ETH itself has better upside with lower risk.

Ethereum Leads with Stability and Growth

Ethereum continues to dominate headlines—not just for its upgrades, but also for its steady institutional support and ecosystem strength. With the upcoming Dencun upgrades and expanding L2 adoption building on its base layer, $ETH is positioned as the safest and most rewarding crypto asset for the 2025 cycle.

The market may eventually rotate into smaller tokens, but right now, Ethereum offers a balanced combination of upside and risk protection. For both retail and institutional investors, $ETH stands tall over its L2 and restaking counterparts.
