The Ethereum Foundation has officially launched a new initiative called the dAI team, led by core developer Davide Crapis. This team’s mission is to make Ethereum a central platform for the growing AI economy, combining blockchain’s transparency with artificial intelligence innovation.
In the near term, the focus is on creating tools that make it easier for AI systems to interact on-chain. Ethereum has long been a hub for decentralized finance (DeFi), and now it is setting its sights on becoming the home for decentralized AI (dAI).
ERC-8004 Standard to Launch in November
One of the first major steps by the dAI team is the ERC-8004 standard, designed to allow seamless transactions between AI agents. This standard will make it easier for AI models and applications to exchange data, payments, and instructions on Ethereum without friction.
The ERC-8004 proposal is expected to be presented at Devconnect in November, giving the developer community a chance to test and provide feedback. If widely adopted, ERC-8004 could play a key role in enabling Ethereum-based AI economies.
Long-Term Vision: Decentralized AI Infrastructure
While ERC-8004 is the immediate priority, the long-term vision is much bigger. The dAI team aims to build a fully decentralized AI infrastructure, where AI tools, training models, and applications operate without centralized control.
This vision aligns with Ethereum’s philosophy of open access and censorship resistance, ensuring that the future of AI remains transparent, collaborative, and secure. By merging blockchain and AI, Ethereum could become the foundation for the next generation of software development.
