- Ant Group targets stablecoin licenses in Singapore and Hong Kong.
- Expansion plan includes license application in Luxembourg.
- Move aims to boost Ant’s international blockchain strategy.
Ant Group, the fintech powerhouse backed by Alibaba, is stepping up its global blockchain ambitions. According to Bloomberg, Ant Group’s international business arm is preparing to apply for stablecoin licenses in Singapore and Hong Kong—two of Asia’s leading crypto-friendly jurisdictions.
This strategic move highlights Ant Group’s growing interest in tapping into regulated digital currency infrastructure. With Singapore’s reputation for innovation and regulatory clarity and Hong Kong’s recent push to attract digital asset companies, both regions present fertile ground for Ant’s blockchain growth.
A Move Beyond Asia: Luxembourg Next
In addition to its Asia plans, Ant Group is also preparing to apply for a stablecoin license in Luxembourg. This would give the Chinese fintech firm a critical foothold in Europe, where digital asset regulation is rapidly evolving under frameworks like MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation).
The Luxembourg license would allow Ant to engage with the European market under a regulated structure, supporting the group’s international payment and settlement ambitions through stablecoins.
Strengthening Blockchain Capabilities
Ant Group’s expansion into regulated stablecoin territories shows the company’s commitment to leveraging blockchain technology beyond China. As stablecoins become a central feature in cross-border transactions, holding licenses in key global regions would help Ant build trust, comply with international rules, and scale blockchain-based services faster.
The move could also support Ant’s broader financial ecosystem, such as Alipay+, by integrating stablecoin payments for international commerce and remittances.
