Morten Søberg, former State Secretary at Norway’s Ministry of Finance and Director at SpareBank 1 Gruppen, has been appointed as the first Secretary General of the Bitcoin Policy Institute Norway (BPI). Set to officially assume the role on September 1, 2025, Søberg’s appointment marks a significant step in integrating Bitcoin into Norway’s financial discourse.
With a PhD in experimental economics from the University of Oslo and a master’s degree in blockchain and digital assets from the Frankfurt School of Finance, Søberg is well-equipped to navigate the intersection of traditional finance and emerging digital assets.
Addressing Bitcoin Misconceptions
The Bitcoin Policy Institute Norway was established to counteract prevalent myths and misinformation about Bitcoin, such as its environmental impact and association with illicit activities. Søberg emphasizes the importance of a nuanced understanding of Bitcoin, stating, “Bitcoin is a fantastic entry point for discussions and thinking about some of the most fundamental aspects of any society — monetary systems and economic value.”
